Just watched Gasland http://www.gaslandthemovie.com/.

This documentary explores the new development of natural gas drilling in the US as an alternative energy supply.

As any other source of energy dependent on our exploitation of natural resources, this one has several negative consequences. The most horrible one – this one is directly making the water supply around the drilling areas undrinkable.

The result is the possibility of millions of people being exposed to pollutants that in the long-term will kill them.

The film exemplifies again the corruption that exists in our government, especially in the laws that affect the energy industry.

But to me, the film showcases something even more profound. The inevitable negative consequence of being human.

We are here. We exist in this planet. We need resources to survive and as we grow, we need more and more of them, from more and more sources. And each time we find another one, we inevitably end up destroying another part of nature, another part of ourselves.

As if God, nature or whatever you want to call it, has placed a big joke in our heads. We need to survive and the only way to do it is to kill ourselves, little by little. I know many would argue that there are many other ways to do things. Ways that might not have these negative consequences, but I am forced to ask those – where is your solution? Please share it, because unless 2/3 of the human population disappear overnight, then we are doomed.

There is simply not turning back at this point. As developing countries grow and reach our levels, the need for more and more resources and the negative consequences attached to them, will inevitably end us all.

And so I dub it the inevitable negative consequence of being human.

Does anyone else feels like they must help those are by their own doing the worst in society?

I called it the Jesus Complex and it affects me very much.

Maybe based on my catholic education, maybe in my own self sense of entitlement, but I definitely can’t unreasonably stop myself from feeling bad when I see others that have continually made the same mistakes over and over make them once more and suffer.

Others believe is not right to worry so much. That those that ended up there did out of their own will and those are collecting what they in all poetic sense deserve.

But wasn’t that the lesson the Jesus tried to impart? Namely, that those that got it right already are and going to be ok. Those that are for whatever reason incapable to find the path are the ones that require help. He himself found surrounded by them.

Conflicted, I put it to rest.

“…you are not Jesus…you are not savior…you are not answer…”

When I was young, I never imagined to be the type that would help life grow in this world. From my child, to the some many cats that suddenly have become part of our family, live keeps springing around me.

Life needs a lot of work to keep on growing. Food, attention, time are examples of the many things required to grow life. My strategy lately has been to treat these little wonders as bonsai trees. Little push over here, little tuck over there. They know where to go, but they require care.

And so, life keeps growing and growing and apparently I have become one of his farmers. Cool.

Today, I taught my son what Thanksgiving is.

Told him, that it is a date to remember that when another human is in danger, the right thing to do is to help him out. That this day we all here in the US remember how when the first pioneers found themselves in their worst, Indians extended their hand in help.

I also explained him, that this day should also make us remember that when someone helps you, you must help them back. In this case, I explain history showed otherwise. With those same once helpless pioneers repaying the natives’ gratitude w blood.

Thanksgiving is an example of the obscure forces inside us. That murderous part of us that has caused us so much pain as a specie.

So, I said, son remember if you ever find yourself almost dead of inanition and someone else shares his food w you, pay them back by not stealing his lands and murdering his people.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

You know how people are always talking about how technology keeps evolving and giving us new ways to do things? While I agree w this view, the main concern I have right now is w the lack of focus towards what I considered one of the most important technological needs we have at the moment.

That need is DNA reconfiguration.

DNA reconfiguration here is defined as the ability of humans to modify DNA strings at will in any specie. How far are we to accomplish this goal? FAR. While we have walked giant steps in the last decades from discovering that DNA programs everything inside a biological being to not only mapping the entire genome of many many species, but now we are commencing to understand the functions that DNA pairs produce. We have already created a vast amount of solutions thanks to our understanding of genetics, but that is not good enough.

What we need is complete DNA reconfiguration capabilities. The ability to modify a biological entity’s code in its entirety using user friendly interfaces and pre-loaded templates. Imagine the potential of a tool of this kind. Photosynthetic humans come to mind right away. We have problems w food supply? Well don’t worry, because after reconfiguration, these humans will absorb their energy directly from the Sun. And of course, there will be an infinite amount of superficial solutions in place in the market. Want blue eyes? Done. Want to be taller? Done. Want to be smarter? Also, done.

Now imagine the impact in medicine. What about updating all current humans to be impermeable to bacterias and viruses? What about eradicating cancer as a simple long-term bug that the system carried from the beginning? The possibilities are enormous.

As I see it, once we arrived to that point in technology, we will be re-shaping the basic template nature, God, randomness provided us w so long ago.

Ultimately, DNA reconfiguration could help us conquer dead itself.

We have a long way to go, but we are always getting closer. I just hope that before I go down in what I hope is another 40-50 years we arrive at that point. Please, oh please let me see at least the beginning. That will be fun. For now, I am already creating a list of changes I would make to my own template.

What about you?

Have you ever tried www.megavideo.com or www.megaupload.com? This service provides access to the most vast collection of movies, music or files that I have seen in my 15 years of Internet addiction. For only $10 a month you have unlimited access to all of this world of digital assets.

Their site won’t show you directly where the media is, but fortunately the folks at Google have provided us w the best search engine ever, so just search for (any movie ever made) + www.megavideo.com and you are there. No downloads, just click and play!

But other services have a big collection of entertainment, so what makes Megavideo better? It’s their reliability. The system just works. You click play and plays. You pause, it pauses. You click on the section of the movie that you want to see, and there it goes. No waiting, no loading. Fast, reliable, simple. I could say 1,000 more things about how good the services is, but the main point is how do they get to be this good?

They are based in Korea and they are relatively a small company, but with lots of traffic. Alexa places them as the 73rd site w more traffic in the world. But even as Google/YouTube can’t keep up w the traffic Megavideo just keep kicking ass.

Whatever it is, please Megavideo, just keep doing such a great job.

Have you guys seen MS’ new flat PC? What’s up with that? After so long of branding itself out of the innovative category, MS comes out with a product that is definitely going to turn heads around. Although, to be honest, I am not that impressed. I heard in the radio and read in the newspapers that MS came out with a truly innovative idea and that people were going to take some time to adapt to it, but that is bullshit.

The truth is that something like this was already part of so, so many people’s minds for a long time. MS is just helping the computer industry to catch up. It is not going to take any time for someone in my generation and beyond to adapt to this new machine. As a matter of fact, I have never seen it myself and I can already tell how to work with it. So big deal!

On the other hand, it is pretty cool. Who am I kidding? You have a table that works as a PC. You don’t need a mouse or a keyboard and it is wireless already, so you can do everything without cables as well. It is a true statement to the future of technology as well. Here are some pictures for you…

OK, OK, so I told you guys that I was going to explain how to actually make money out of a wiki site and then I went in a rampage of PR articles, but here it is, the continuation to these series. Sorry for the long gap. Well the first thing that you need in order to start your own wiki is a script that you can install in a web server. If you are asking what the hell is a script? Don’t worry I felt the exact same way, just some over a month ago and that did not stop me either. It is very simple a php script is a kind of program that you download from the internet and after following the installation directions, you run in a web server. I use Host Gator to run mine at Wiki eBooks and the php script I use is the same one that Wikipedia uses namely MediaWiki and you can download it here MediaWiki. I am not here to teach you why did I choose Host Gator and MediaWiki. There are indeed many web hosting companies out there, some bad, some good, but I like the one I chose. It took me a lot of hard research to find them and they are great. And I am not an affiliate to them, so if you follow the link in here I won’t get paid. This is just free advice. MediaWiki was an easy choice. I mean if it works for Wikipedia, trust me it will work for you too. Try playing around with getting a web host and to install the php script and come back to keep learning how to make money out of it. One last thing, before starting this wiki-journey, please make sure that you have a topic that you love to talk about, so you can focus your wiki into that main subject. See you next time…
